PINRA
Step One:
Choose the activity/conference you want to attend. It does not have to pertain strictly to interpreting. As long as the activity can be demonstrated as educationally beneficial to you as an interpreter, it can earn you CEUs!
Step Two:
Contact the CMP by email to secure their agreement to process the paperwork for the conference. Be sure to discuss the Content Area for which you are applying (Professional Studies or General Studies). Requests for PINRAs must be made at least 48 hours in advance of the activity.
Step Three:
- Complete the Participant Initiated Non-RID Activity (PINRA) Form.
- Submit the form and pertinent documentation, including an agenda, program book, or a flyer for the activity.
- NOTE: Additional information may be requested depending on the nature of the activity
- Return the form and documentation to your Sponsor, who will keep the form until your activity is completed. This form must be sent to your Sponsor before the activity begins!!
Submit payment for CEUs submitted to NJRID via check (see below for address), PayPal or Zelle
(1) a picture/copy of the check should be sent by email as verification of submission,
(2) and the actual check can be mailed to NJRID, PO Box 213, Eatontown, New Jersey 07724.

For Zelle Payments:
1. Go to your bank's website
2. Go to Zelle payments
3. Enter treasurer.njrid@gmail.com for payment
4. Write "PINRA CEUs" on the reason
5. Send an email to cmpnjrid@gmail.com with a screenshot as proof of payment
Step Four:
Upon completion of the activity, attain a certificate of attendance or verification of attendance and a handout or image of materials from the activity. Send documentation to your Sponsor within 15 days of the completed activity.

If you do not receive your certificate of participation immediately after the activity, then you MUST complete the verification of attendance.

Late submission of verification of attendance will jeopardize the submission of CEUs.
Step five:
Upon receipt of all documentation, the CMP will file the completed paperwork with the RID national office. The RID Approved Sponsor will sign the bottom portion of the PINRA form, indicating their agreement and verification to sponsor and award CEU credits. A copy of this form will be returned to the requestor.
ACADEMIC
Step one:
Choose the course you want to attend at an accredited college or university. The course does not have to pertain strictly to interpreting; it can be a course in Linguistics, Business, Psychology, Social Work, etc. As long as the course can be demonstrated as educationally beneficial to you as an interpreter, it can earn CEUs for you!
Step two:
Contact the CMP by email to secure their agreement to process the paperwork for the course. Be sure to discuss the Content Area for which you are applying (i.e. Professional Studies or General Studies) and how many CEUs will be earned. The standard formula for determining the number of CEUs per course is as follows:
- 1.5 CEUs per credit hour for a course taken in a semester session.
- 1.0 CEUs per credit hour for a course taken in a quarter session.
Step three:
- Complete the Academic Course Activity Report.
- If requested, attach the required documentation, including a course description, a course outline or syllabus, and proof that the college/university is accredited through the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
NOTE: Additional information may be requested depending on the nature of the activity. You may also pay online. See below.

Upon completion of the course, attach a copy of the transcript showing successful completion of the course with a grade of “C” or higher (2.0 or higher).
Return the form and documentation to the CMP, who will file the completed paperwork with the RID national office. The RID Approved Sponsor will sign the bottom portion of the form, indicating their agreement and verification to sponsor and award CEU credits.
Please Note: Academic Coursework can be processed for CEUs after the course has actually been completed. Coursework must have been taken during the CMP participant’s current cycle.
IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT CEUS
If you are teaching or presenting a professional studies class or workshop, general CEUs will be earned.
If the training is required by your job or a part of the job expectations, CEUs MAY NOT BE EARNED.
If you are teaching or developing ITP courses or materials, CEUs MAY NOT BE EARNED.
